Imagine if..
I've been dogging it. Since the half-marathon at the end of April, I've had zero focus with respect to "training". Probably because, I haven't set a new goal ... but to be honest, I'm not too interested in going further or faster. It hurts too much and takes too much effort. I seem perfectly content living my life of gluttony, and then going for a 5K jog to burn off a couple hundred calories every now and again.
And - even worse - enough to make my 2005 self cringe - I haven't even tracked mileage or workouts since March. I have no idea how many miles I have on my current shoes. No idea how long my last bike ride was on Sunday - my bike computer doesn't even work! The Garmin Geek is officially dead. I'm turning into one of those guys who show up to races.... for FUN!
But... imagine if I did start training??? Last night - case in point, I didn't even really want to go to the duathlon. Yet, when I got there, just being there amped me up a bit, and I had a decent night. 54:38 - right on par with what I would normally be 2 or 3 years ago. The VD chase, was 21:30 (only 37 seconds shy of a PB). With the right program, and a good diet, I could smoke my 2005 self!
Quit drinking beer and start training??? Bahhh. The "beer mile" is coming up soon. Now there's a good excuse to continue working on my Molson Muscle.

Tackling Doubt
I think I've been trying to sabotage my marathon.
At the least, I think I've been laying the foundation for my future excuses.
I can't seem to stop eating and drinking and snacking. Not because I'm hungry, but because I want to. I avoided the scale yesterday. I hit it today tipping in at 168. I'm not trying to impress anyone. But, that, is heavy for me and all the excess is comprised entirely of unhealthy stuff.
I ran 14K on Sunday. It was a bit of a grind. I averaged 6:27 kms. Jeepers, I thought. is that what I am.
Today, I turned a new page: only one bowl of Sugar Crisp (instead of three). I upped the pace on my lunch run, for no reason other than to prove to myself that I could. And I did. (5:12 for 6K)
So here we are at Week 7 of 18. 23K on Sunday. (that will be the longest run of my life to date). I'm taking today as a kind of new beginning - I've got a somewhat renewed enthusiasm. Planning to hit Montreal on the weekend ... new shoes are in the cards.

Rats... and old lady soup.
08:35 for 500 meters today in the pool. I couldn't remember what my SB or PB were, I thought I was close. Turns out, 10 seconds away still from the PB. Rats. But, if anything. I'm pretty consistent. I did stop to empty my goggles once, so maybe add a second for that... and I did skip a few flip turns out of courtesy to someone else getting in...
I haven't bitched about the pool in a while. And really, I shouldn't, because I did have half the lane to myself... but:
What is it with old ladies and their body spray!?!?!? The entire shallow end was just awful with a thin skim of old-lady scum.

I don't like swimming in old lady soup!
