The Plan, The Half, The Target Pace, and the Aquathlon

I'm fairly happy with my ability to follow my Plan. A shuffle here and there, a missed workout or two, an improvised workout and I'm not too far off it. Most importantly, I got the 15K long run in on Friday - in the snow. Sidenote: I ran along the half-marathon course to the Power Dam. I followed some tracks about half of the way, and then made my own tracks for about 4K. It was pretty interesting to run back along my own tracks. It would have been nice to take a picture of them.

I pushed the button yesterday, and signed up for the half. 15 sleeps.

What's my goal? Good question. Last year I was hell-bent on 1:45. I'm not sure why. I just came up with that number one day, and tried to achieve it. I wasn't ready for the heat, and I wasn't ready for the course, and I had a bad day. I ended up just shy of 2 hours.

This year, I'm not hell-bent on a time. Although, I will throw out a number, just for the sake of it. 1:52:25. I'm fairly confident, I can average 5:20 pace. But if I don't, I will at least try to smile along the route.

The Aquathlon

Although, the half is a bigger event, I'm more excited about a smaller local event: 1000m pool swim + 5K run. Partly because, I really enjoy pool swimming, and partly because, even though I'm not a sprinter, I like running 5K. I'm predicting 18 mins for the swim and 22 mins for the run. (perhaps less for the run - get a bucket ready for the finish line - I'm not going to hold anything back).

To Speedo or not to Speedo

That, is the question.
